TBI vs Nursemaid's Elbow

Anyone who knows me well knows that I'm a little bit of a negative thinker with anxieties that are a little ridiculous. . .some may even call me a hypochondriac . . . maybe, if a hypochondriac thinks that a little case of hemorrhoids is actually colon cancer (was that a little TMI?). Anyways, my hypochondria and anxieties are obviously not only directed at me but to the kids and Erich too. . .and the worst thing happened today . . . today I thought my baby was dying! I thought for sure he had a Traumatic Brain Injury from falling down 3 stairs and then off the couch. He was acting all funny, not ha-ha funny, but weird, inconsolable, limp, I was freaking out. He didn't want to nurse which was a big sign and his left side, notably his arm, was totally limp.

Luckily, when we got him in the doctor, and I told him I wanted him to check his arm and to make sure he didn't have any brain injury, he just laughed at me! Not in an insulting way but in a good way that made me snap out of it and realize what a crazy mom I was being. Well, anyways, it turns out that little miss Darby dislocated Brendan's elbow, what is called "Nursemaid's Elbow." All the doc did was relocate and boom, Brendan was good as new, ready to head off to get his sucker. Darby told me that they were playing a game where Brendan would pull her arm and then she would pull his arm and "he liked it mom." and then she obviously pulled a little too hard and wham-o, dislocation.

Oh thank god for any overly aggressive 6 year old sister instead of a big brain bleed :) As soon as I said it out loud to the doctor I knew I was being overly ridiculous, and it certainly sounds no less ridiculous here. I gotta work on my crazy!

I don't think you are alone!! J fell off the monkey bars last night and I checked him twice through the night to make sure he was still alive...no internal damage! Why is it called nursemaid's elbow?
