The trip down

So we made it home safe and sound yesterday, no mishaps to report and the biggest complainer of all turned out to be me :) I thought I would break the blog posts down to a couple different ones as there seems like a lot to say . . . here goes.

We left at the butt crack of dawn last Wednesday, okay not the butt crack to too many people but so early for me, 6:30. We piled the kids in the car, hoping they would sleep but nope, wide awake. It was raining when we left which was gloomy and set the tone for the rest of the day. It snowed the entire time. Here I am in my capri pants, no coat for myself or either of the kids and it's a blizzard outside, windy, cold, wet, yuck! We missed an exit to Twin Falls and then in Nevada on I-80 the interstate was closed for a few hours. We hit it right before it opened back up but we were bumper to bumper in traffic with like a gazillion truckers . . . I've never seen that many truckers before, not fun. We finally made it to Winnemucca where we met up with Rich and Anna and had a great BBQ meal and hit the hotel pool. The kids were great, at one point I think they were both asleep and Erich and I didn't quite know what to do with ourselves, talk to each other?!?

The next day was cake, just 4.5 hours to Sacramento and pretty good weather. There was a pretty severe accident in Reno that we must've just missed because people were running down to an overturned car and there were no cops there yet. I hope they didn't call the crew from "Reno 911!" Anyways, it was beautiful in California when we got there. We stayed with Erich's uncle Scott. It was a beautiful oasis in the middle of a sprawling city. It is about 3 acres with lush trees, beautiful flowers, chickens, dogs, cats, and even a chinchilla. It was perfect for Darby and Trevor to enjoy the outside and I really think it made things so much easier for me. Oh and the fact that Grandma and Grandpa were there too. We always have to recover from grandparent-itis when we get back from things like that. Anyways, they loved hanging out with Scott, Audrey and their cousin Bennett, thank you all so much!

Here are the kids in the hotel pool, there are lots of pics but they're mostly on other peoples cameras so you'll have to wait for the album :)
